First version of a downdraft for the Pro 575/780 series. Hope it works!

Lasercut out of 2mm(5/64) stainless steel with a top vent.

Used only the two screws for the chimney.
Might need some extra adjusments since the smoker is not 100% in radius.
Coming mods:
Lid gasket
Timberline 850 control, need the SuperSmoke... (if it works with the 780 auger/hoper)
Stainless insulation plates
Custom grates (maybe)

What's your theory here, wont the openings in the heat sheild for the chimney act the same as the original, are they adjustable?

The vent can be closed. I added it just if it did not work at startup. Fully adjustable. Might be hard to see, but it's closed on the second picture. Hope it works...

Is that Don Godke's version, or did you make that yourself?

I was inspired by Don Godke's version of downdraft. But I wanted to keep the original upper shelf holder on the sides and do the insulation plate at the same time.
So I made drawings in Inventor and printed on paper 1:1. Tested and tested until i worked. Then laser cut it in stainless and it turned out quite good. Had to do some grinding, but not much. Next thing will be the insulation sheet on the burner side...

But I had to return the controller since it was not D2 controller. Have to look for another one.

Next will be more insulation plates in SS.

Heck; even your gasket looks laser-cut.

Are you saying what is pictured is not a D2 controller, or your smoker is not compatible with D2?

Unfortunately it´s a an old version of the control without D2. Only two wires for the auger and two wires for the fan, there should be four to each as a D2 version.

Now finally I got hold off a ELE162 controller with Super Smoke! See pics of 780 Pro with Super Smoke controller. Hope it works well!!

@TheSpann, how does the super smoke work? I was thinking of upgrading my pro 575 with super smoke controller also .... is it worth it?

EDIT: also, does the lid still close fine with that gasket? did you have to mess with the hinges or anything?

Thanks!!

When I see the words "I laser cut it out of stainless steel", instant respect. Us electronics guys marvel at good metal work.

Nice project!
